P.6 (Scattering) The absorption of radiation increases as
fruit firmness decreases i.e. firmer fruit reflect more radiation than softer
fruit; this is limited to water and pectin content.
A key feature of the calibration and validation sets is that
it contained data from nectarines sampled at different stages of ripening and
storage; this would account for the high coefficient of variation (CV) values
recorded, particularly for firmness and fruit weight.
